Details

Alumni joined this in person networking event to learn more about the Net Zero Tracker, which aims to increase transparency and accountability of net zero targets pledged by nations, states and regions, cities and companies. Built on collaboration and people power, the Net Zero Tracker relies on a team of student, and now alumni, volunteers to collect publicly available data that indicates the integrity of these targets.

In addition to learning how Oxford Net Zero are helping businesses and policymakers achieve their net zero goals, alumni heard from ClientEarth, one of the world's most ambitious environmental organisations, about how they are using the law to hold companies to account. The discussion covered the topics of net zero targets and their integrity; fossil fuel removal; deforestation and how nature links to net zero.

After the discussion alumni had the chance to put their questions to the panel, network with fellow alumni over drinks and pizza, and to sign up as a Net Zero Tracker volunteer.

For those interested in a career in sustainability, this event was a great opportunity to learn about the part that you can play as an individual and an employee in the countdown to net zero, and how volunteering can boost your net zero literacy.

Speakers:

Sam Hunter Jones, Energy Systems Lead (Europe), Client Earth
John Lang, Net Zero Tracker Lead, Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit
Alexis McGivern, Net Zero Integrity Manager, Oxford Net Zero
Steve Smith, Executive Director, Oxford Net Zero and CO2RE

Post-event drinks: local alumni group Oxford10 held post-event drinks at Serata Hall to enable alumni to carry on the conversation over cocktails after the event.
